HOME AWAY FROM HOME

“It’s the outlook that everyone falls in love with. It reminds you where you are and encapsulates the region’s incredible mountainous landscape.”

Ed Note… So after a day outdoors and a visit to a winery for lunch we get 'home' with the fire now roaring and we head out onto the deck for a soak in the hot spa and enjoy the spectacular sunset viewing golden pink skies. I have to say the spa became a routine during our stay, it started and ended each day. So indulgent! Makes a perfect romantic weekend away or with friends!

A mere 3-hour drive from Melbourne, Hemley House is situated in the centre of Grampians National Park. Here luxurious accommodation is paired with remarkable views.

Hemley House is eco-friendly and modern in design yet there is no lack of rural charm. It rests in a quiet pocket only a short walk from the town centre. Expect a greeting from the locals, a kookaburra sitting in a gum tree or kangaroos grazing nearby!

Owner Cathy purchased Hemley House in 2016. “It came about because of my love of the Grampians. I would often visit the region and think, ‘Why am I paying for someone else’s dream when I can create my own?’ I had been looking at a range of properties however it wasn’t until I walked into Hemley House and saw the view from the deck that I was sold. I feel fortunate to be a part of this property’s history.”

Hemley House is ideal for travellers who appreciate the finer things. This was something Cathy felt was lacking in the area. “I like to be indulged when I’m on holiday so that became my vision; that our visitors be spoilt whilst enjoying the region I love.” The house reflects Cathy’s passion for art and interior design. “I think my love for linen is most evident. I often have to refrain from buying more linen or new cushions!”

The house is solar powered and all the amenities are wrapped in paper to ensure minimal waste thus reflecting Cathy’s commitment to the environment.

The well-appointed kitchen overlooks the deck and each room takes advantage of the surrounds. With a north facing aspect, natural light floods the property.

For the adventurous at heart, Hemley House is a great base for exploring the natural beauty of Halls Gap. Hike the trails to fully experience the grandeur of the forest. The views from the 33km Grampians Peaks Trail are spectacular, in particular at sunrise or sunset.

Be sure to treat yourself to a glass of Shiraz (the region is best known for its reds) or relax in Hemley House’s spa. These two activities may even become an indulgent daily routine during your stay!

Hemley House is a haven of luxury nestled in amongst a wild and dramatic landscape. Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and appreciate Australia’s beauty rich and free.

Lovingly nicknamed ‘Gastronomic Grampians’, the town’s cafés, farm gate providores and farmers’ markets make it a haven for foodies.
