Q&A ImageHaus creative director Henryk

A Libran creative who has a passion for capturing love. Henryk, creative director of photography studio
ImageHaus, shares a little of what inspires his work, where it began and why his work has captured couples hearts across the world.

Let’s go back to the start. Where did your love of photography begin?

I first fell in love with shooting people while I was the art director at Lorna Jane and I shot the Lookbooks and Campaigns in-house. Three years later I went freelance full time shooting editorial and fashion advertising.

You shoot commercial photography as well as weddings. What is it about weddings you love?

Yes they are different and both beautiful in their individual ways. With wedding photography you are capturing real love and real moments/emotions; and you feel that while you shoot. With fashion photography you are there to create moments that look real and feel real, but they are very much a creation.

What I love about weddings is that you can sit in that space of love - it’s inspiring. There is a warmth and a beauty there.

Can you share 3 pieces of advice for a couple when they are selecting their photographer for the day?

  1. Meet the photographer and make sure you like them.

  2. Look for a photographer that really captures the moments where the personality and beauty shines through, and where the bride and groom look their best.

  3. Make sure everything is included in the price and that there is no hidden fees or extras after the wedding day.

How would you describe your style?

Polished, editorial, soulful.

You travel the world shooting weddings what advice for couples considering a destination wedding?

Just this month we have booked in weddings in Lake Como, NYC and Hayman Island. Obviously right now dates can move but I feel like there’s confidence towards the end of next year for overseas weddings.

The suppliers that you would consider taking with you would be the photographer, videographer & HMUA, (the rest of the suppliers can be sourced overseas) as every single country deals with capture and beauty in a completely different way it will show in the final product, so if you are very particular I would consider your team carefully to avoid disappointment. Plus we definitely have a very high calibre of artists in Australia.

You have launched ‘The Lovers’ series - tell us more!

We have definitely had time to focus on Instagram and Pinterest while weddings have all moved in this last quarter. We have also been shooting quite a few ‘couple sessions’ (which is what our version of a pre-wedding shoot) because we believe a couple session can be shot before or after a wedding as sometimes it’s even better to shoot them after As you can go to a far off location and not be so worried about your wedding dress getting marked.

Something you have learnt during COVID?

I came to a realisation that we are all very privileged, especially in Australia. it’s quite amazing when you come to the realisation that you don’t need that much in life when you’re surrounded by family. Love is the most important thing.
