50 years together….

ANNIVERSARY STORY

To celebrate their 50th year together and 46 years of marriage, Margaret and Andy decided to have an anniversary shoot in Fremantle.

Margaret 67, and Andy 69, are both originally from Scotland. Born in a small town to big families of seven children, the pair met at a local youth club when Margaret was 16 and Andy was 19.

“I thought Margaret was cute and innocent,” Andy said. “She thought I was nice-natured and thought I had lots of money!” he joked.

“From the beginning we had a great feeling of togetherness between us and we still have it to this day’,” Margaret said.
”Be true to one another, patient and thoughtful.”

Four years after their first meeting, Margaret and Andy were married on May 16, 1970 in Port Glasgow, Scotland. They have since welcomed 4 children and moved to Perth.
Their anniversary photoshoot was as much for their family as it was for the couple, “It will be something nice to leave the children and grandchildren,” Andy said. The photoshoot began at the couple’s home in Fremantle before moving outdoors. “We started at our house because we wanted to feel comfortable at home.”

One of Perth’s leading floral stylists, Jappalin Manning the owner of FlowerTalk said, “This shoot was a refreshing change from our typical weddings. It all came together so perfectly with the styling, the photographer Ben Yew and of course this lovely couple. “Margaret and Andy happen to be my old next door neighbours! I have always admired their relationship and bubbly personalities. Their love story is inspiring. It started when they were so young and they are still very much in love,” Jappalin said.

Margaret and Andy credit their long-lasting and happy marriage to their joint interests which include travelling, cooking, reading, and going to the cinema, plus, “Growing old, appreciating each another and having fun along the way.”

Andy’s secret advice? “Marriage has to have one boss, so you have to learn these two words, ‘Yes dear’,” Andy laughed, adding, “The boss often changes from day to day.”

The shoot had a fun and whimsical look with vintage blue bike, pink and white flowers and white balloons.

“In a port city like Fremantle with beautiful heritage buildings and Ben’s incredible photography style, how could we go wrong!” - Jappalin
