I was a skeptic now I’m a devotee to luxury beauty

by Joshua Heath

Like many men and women I’ve tried numerous ‘miracle’ lotions and potions over the years including my fair share of botox and the occasional lip filler.

However there’s was one luxury brand of so called “miracle” creams I’d never tried, mainly because of its high price. La Prairie or as my friend who’s used it for years refers to it “The holy grail” these creams are so expensive I’d never bought my self to hand over the cash for what in my mind, were just beautifully packaged products, with a cult following and impeccable branding. I’d expressed these feelings to my friend for years who always replied with “one day you’ll try them and eat your words”.

Each year my friend and I take each other to lunch for our birthdays, share a bottle of champagne and give a token gift. However this year my friend decided it was time to change our long standing tradition and instead I meet them out the front of David Jones in Sydney’s CBD.

As we walked pasted the various beauty counters proclaiming their “miracle” lotions and potions we arrived at non other than the “Holy Grail” La Prairie.

“Lunch is cancelled, today you are going to experience luxury like never before”

Within a few moments I was whisked into a private treatment room away from the hustle and bustle of the shop floor to a room of soft grey tones, soothing music and a sense of complete calm.

For the next hour my face, neck, shoulder and décolletage received the crème de la crème of lotions and potions as part of La Prairies, Signature Facial Treatment. As I lay on the plush bed wrapped up like Tutankhamun my only thought was.... “oh my god my skin feels AMAZING” and to my surprise when I looked into the mirror it looked even better than it felt. Those puffy dark circles around my eyes had disappeared, my forehead appeared smooth, even the small red blemishes on my cheeks appeared to have melted away. Was this really the Holy Grail or just the fact I’d had multiple creams and lotions massaged into my face by a professional beauty therapist for the best part of an hour?

I met my friend back at the La Prairie counter and after a quick run down by my therapist of what just transpired we headed for a glass of champagne fresh faced a feeling fabulous.

Raising our glasses to another year my friend reveals a La Prairie gift bag announcing “Happy Birthday, it’s time to eat your words”. As if the facial treatment wasn’t enough I I also received the Skin Caviar Lux Eye Cream, one of the products used from my facial.

The following day with my skin still feeling and looking incredible from my facial I looked into my cupboard to see a total of 6 different half used face creams ranging in price from under $10 to over $150. It suddenly dawned on me that non of them had shown any positive effects on my skin and yet the total combined cost of them was more than some La Prairie products. So I made the decision it was time to stop wasting money on products that promises “fresh, glowing, uplifted, youthful, age defining skin” and don’t deliver. That day I purchased the Skin Caviar Luxe Cream to complement my Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Cream.

Fast forward nearly three months of using both creams and, well... ok I’m eating my words. These really are the “Holy Grail”, my skin has never, ever, looked or felt so good. The improvements I saw following my facial have continued to improved, the dark circles around my eyes I’d struggled with for years have visibly faded to the point I now don’t apply concealer which I’d done for years in hope of hiding them.

Best of all I’ve only just hit the half way point of each product, they are extremely concentrated and a small amount goes a long way. The products feel extremely rich and hydrating yet my skin still feels light and refreshed rather than clogged and heavy like other products I’ve used in the past.

The results speak for themselves, but don’t take my word for it treat yourself. Indulge in the Signature Facial Treatment available at David Jones, best of all you’ll receive $250* to redeem on La Prairie Skincare following your treatment.

Next on my La Prairie wishlist, the Skin Caviar Luxe Sleep Mask, Skin Caviar Eye Lift and the Cellular Hand Cream.
